SUMMARY:Round 7 - Kinmel ACF Camp (Bodelwyddan)
DESCRIPTION:Round 7 of the 2017/18 North Wales CycloX League: Kinmel  ACF Camp LL18 5YA\n\n(sponsored by The Bike Factory\, Chester)\n\nSunday 31 December 2017\n\n\n\nRhyl Cycling Club welcomes NWCX to the new for 2017 venue of Kinmel Army Cadet Camp.\n\nThe Baron Dinorben (William Hughes)\, a copper mining tycoon of the early 1800s\, originally owned the Kinmel Hall Estate.  Kinmel Camp was built during the Great War. Following Armistice\, it housed 15\,000 Canadian soldiers and wounded patients in the nearby hospital. It played host to the “Kinmel Camp Riot” of March 1919 when war weary Canadian troops\, unaware of industrial action by merchant seamen\, mutinied against poor rations\, cold accommodation and delayed repatriation. This tragedy resulted in five deaths and umpteen casualties. It highlighted to the authorities the challenging circumstances endured by Commonwealth troops as the war effort wound down.  The Camp saw further service in the Second World War especially in the lead up to D-Day. It became a training depot until the 1960s and even had its own railway branch line supplying troops and a neighbouring quarry. Nowadays the camp is owned by the Army Cadet Force of Wales\, a youth organisation\, but we are lucky that many of the 1914-18 era wooden huts survive providing visitors an authentic impression of how troops were billeted before and after service on the Western Front.\n\nCompetitors can expect tarmac\, gravel and grass.   We will race over the tarmac roads and grass borders in the camp and venture into a  grass assault course paddock bounded by a gravel road.\n\nPlease follow signs to main car park.  Race HQ will be located in a range building with access to WCs.\n\nChildren are not permitted on the assault course obstacles or to go onto the training areas under any circumstances.\n\nThere is no public access to this site although dogs are discouraged in the interest of competitor safety.\n\nNWCX requires competitors to assist course clearance post-race because we have a strict condition to clear the site by 1530.\n\nRACE TIMES\n\n10 -10:45 Race 1&2 number pick up and fun race registration.\n11:00 – Kids fun race\n11:20 Race 1: U12/U10/U8 Entry Fee (£2 online or £5 on the day)\n11:50 Race 2: U16/U14/ Adult novice/fun (£4 online or £7 on the day)\n12:30 – 13:00 Race 3 number pick up (£4 online or £7 on the day)\n13:15 Race 3: Juniors & Adults (Nifty online entries only\, no payment on day)\n14:30 – all hands to the deck to help take the course down please\n\nNO riding on the course whilst other classes are racing\nRace 1 & 2 can pre-ride 10-10:30\nRace 3 can pre-ride 12:30 – 13:00\n\n(Vets will be classified V40\,V50\, V60+ subject to participant numbers\, M&F)\nNewcomers regardless of age\, gender or ability are welcome.
