NWCX League Round 9: Minera Lead Mines – Pyllau Plwm y Mwynglawdd 27 October 2019

Minera Lead Mines, Minera, Wrexham, LL11 3DU

27 October 2019

NWCX visits the historic former lead mines host to centuries of lead, zinc and lime production. Active in Roman times, in the medieval era and for the whole duration of the Industrial Revolution as the Minera Mining Company this park is steeped in industrial heritage. It is nowadays reclaimed  by mother nature and  has a bit of everything required to ensure that you have the full cyclocross experience and a good night’s sleep afterwards.

This will be the 8th edition of the Minera Lead Mines Cyclocross race on the hills above Wrexham.   Parking and toilet facilities are available on site. Please note that this country park is open to the public and we rely on the good will of Wrexham County Borough Council, so please be mindful of other users.

Sign on will take place at the Race HQ gazebo erected next to the museum above the car park.

The adult race will be a line mass start on the open field following the  last three editions. Depending on numbers, the children will start on the road leading up to the HQ area.

RACE TIMES:

Children & Seniors must enter on Nifty Online

As in previous seasons NWCX is requiring online entries with Nifty  for all senior and children categories except for the novice childrens’s race and the novice adults’ race.  This ruling is to provide HQ adequate time to issue timing chips and reduce administration burdens.

Children & Seniors Novice (beginners) race – enter on the day

To encourage beginners NWCX offers “one the day entries” for the childrens novice race (usually at 11am for 10mins duration) and the adults novice race (usually at 12midday  for 30mins duration). These beginners’ races can be entered on the day.

Warning: The first races of the year are busy so please arrive early to collect your number.

Newcomers regardless of age, gender or ability are welcome. You can race on a cyclocross bike or a mountain bike. You can try the beginners race for 30mins.

Parents:  children enjoy cyclocross. If unsure don’t be afraid to ask at HQ. This series prioritises racing for children and newcomers. Most beginners make rapid progress.

Single frameset rule: NWCX operates a single frameset rule. You must use the bike you start with. No spare bikes permitted once race underway.

Knobbly tyres: cyclocross takes place on grass, mud and trail surfaces. It is essential for competitor safety that you fit knobbly tyres for cyclocross. Riders with smooth tyres will be asked to discontinue.

Competitors retain numbers. This stays with you for all season so keep it safe between races. Replacement numbers will be charged at £3 per set.

Competitors are to hand back their race chips at the finish. Each chip cost £30+vat.  You will be billed if failing to hand back your chip

YOUR CO-OPERATION:
1. Please car share if possible
2. Park where directed (this will include the lane by HK Motors and some limited parking on the New Brighton road).
3. Observe the timings above
4. Children racers leave the site as soon as possible to make space for adults
5. If you cannot attend please withdraw (with full refund) and let someone else have your place – asap please!

With your help,  we can manage the restricted parking, nearly meet demand and host another successful race in this historic country park.

BRING YOUR RACE NUMBERS. The large number must be on bottom of your back, over your rear pockets, and the small number on your right arm.
